Richard Ground (M.A. Cantab) was educated at St. John’s College, Cambridge where he won the McMahon Law Studentship. Richard was highly commended in the Common Professional examination and was graded as “very competent” in the bar vocational course at the Inns of Court School of Law.

Richard was called to the Bar in 1994 and was awarded the Sunley Exhibition by the Inner Temple.

In practice he has been recommended as a leading junior for a number of years in both The Legal 500 and in Chambers and Partners. In Planning Magazine in June 2010 he was voted one of the top 3 juniors nationally. He specialises in planning, compulsory purchase, environmental, local government, highways, housing and property including village and town greens. He is a member of the Planning Environment Bar Association (PEBA). He has extensive experience in particular in major planning inquiries and local plan inquiries. He lectures for CLT and the Local Government Group in planning and was a contributor to Burnett-Hall on Environmental Law (2nd Edition), Sweet & Maxwell, published in December 2008.

Richard is ranked as a leading junior (planning) in the Legal 500 (2004 - 2009). The Legal 500 recognised that Richard "punches above his weight’ and ‘really impresses with his thoroughness".

Planning Magazine
In June 2010 he was voted one of the top 3 juniors nationally. In May 2009 Richard was ranked in the top 5 highest rated planning juniors.
