Paul Shadarevian was called to the Bar of Gray’s Inn in 1984 after fulfilling a two year appointment as Senior Research Officer at the University of Essex, Department of Government (in which post he was responsible for academic research into the effectiveness of major public inquiries as a means of governmental decision advice procedure, using the Third London Airport Inquiry, Stansted as a case study). Since then he has practised as both a solicitor and a barrister. In 1986 he joined the leading City firm, Norton Rose, becoming a partner in 1991 where he was responsible for many major planning and infrastructure projects.

As a solicitor and Partner of Norton Rose he was listed as a leading expert on planning in Chamber’s Guide to the Legal Profession.

He rejoined the Bar in 1996 specialising in planning, compulsory purchase and compensation, local government, environmental law, real property, landlord and tenant and highways. He is Junior Counsel to the Crown. He was original joint author and joint Consultant Editor of Butterworth’s Planning Law Service.

He has acted for the planning authorities in the two major public inquires into substantial new port proposals at Harwich (Bathside Bay) and Felixstowe (FSR) and has recently appeared on behalf of the compensating authority in the multi million Lands Tribunal case of Essex County Showground Ltd v Essex County Council.

He is recognised as a leading planning junior in the most recent edition of the Legal 500 (2009), described as "top notch" and in Chambers and Partners 2010 he is described as "knowledgeable, serviceable and straight-to-the-point approach" has earned him the widespread respect of his peers and clients".

He has regularly been ranked in the top 25 senior juniors by Planning Magazine's Legal Survey. The June 2010 survey recognises his work on Development Plans as one of the top three in the country.
