Damien Welfare came to the Bar in 2001 after a successful career in Local Government. He specialises in:

  • Local authority law
    All aspects of local authority law. Particular focus on powers; delegations; decision-making; constitutions.
  • Information law
    Freedom of Information, Data Protection and the Environmental Information Regulations.
  • Parliamentary
    Parliamentary drafting, procedure and representation on private bills.

He also undertakes planning and regulatory crime prosecutions.

The Legal 500 reports Damien as being singled out by clients for his work in the area of Administrative and Public Law for three years running. (Legal 500, 2009).

In Chambers and Partners 2009 Damien is recognised as having 'generated a great deal of respect from clients, who appreciate his down-to-earth approach: “He’s not one for beating around the bush and speaking in legal jargon. He just gets straight to the heart of the matter.” He is skilled in data protection and freedom of information matters.'
